There are so many factors in our tweens’ and teens’ lives that can contribute to meltdowns and shutdowns and due to the complexities of the way our Autistic tweens and teens experience the world meltdowns and shutdowns are not something we can eliminate. However, when we understand the reasons behind this behaviour we can gain valuable insight and tools that allow us to support our children and ourselves navigate these challenging moments and reducing the incidences of these occurring.
