Specialized support for parents of neurodivergent children and teens in autistic burnout recovery
In 2019 we as a family were given news that changed our lives forever. Our eldest child who was 18 years old at the time, was identified as Autistic. This led to us discovering that our other children and we as parents were Autistic too.
With news this monumental you might expect to receive wrap-around support, guidance and tools to help us navigate this new and overwhelming journey as a family…
However, in reality, our family (like so many countless others) were handed a diagnosis report, a handful of pamphlets and a list of websites and left to find our way through a stretched, confusing and disempowering system.
This life-changing discovery came after years of struggling to support our children with their mental health through the system (and failing).
On the one hand, it was a relief to have a reason for why…
However, initially, the only thing this identification process gave us was a name for what was happening and a million more questions and worries for our child’s future.
We were a family at crisis point.
We still had all the same challenges as before our child was identified as Autistic. The only difference now was that we also had a shitload more research and self-education to add to our already overloaded capacity as parents.
To say we were struggling would have been a gross understatement. I can still remember how lonely, isolated and totally overwhelmed we all felt.
Deep down I knew that I wanted more for my family than simply getting by. This is why I invested in myself and my family through countless hours of research, professional development and learning from other neurodivergent lived experiences (including my children’s).
Things slowly got better, and easier and Wayne and I started feeling more confident in parenting our Neurodivergent children and their mental health started improving.
Here are some of the benefits we experienced:
These are all things I could have only dreamed possible before our Autism journey began. The kids, Wayne and I share our journey with other families on our podcast. You can listen here.
This journey has been so transformative for us, that it fueled my desire to help other families who were struggling as we had been. This led me to offer 1-1 parent coaching and group coaching for parents of Autistic and ADHD children and teens. With this intention, The Neurodivergent Family Toolbox was born.
My mission is to support parents, with the lived experience, guidance and community to help them understand their children (and themselves). This program allows you to cut through the confusion and the overwhelm and gives you real and actionable tools to feel equipped, empowered and confident as a parent.
I wish a program like this had been available to me and my family at the beginning of our journey. This was such a vulnerable time for us as a family and I know that it is for you too. My family deserved so much more than a handful of pamphlets and a list of websites and so do your family.
The Neurodivergent Family Toolbox is for parents of neurodivergent (Autistic, ADHD or AuDHD) children or teens, who are looking for a way to support themselves and their child in a neuro-affirming way.
