How To Support Your Autistic Tweens and Teens With Meltdowns and Shutdowns

How To Support Your Autistic Tweens and Teens With Meltdowns and Shutdowns

August 14, 2023 @ 20:30 22:00 UTC+13

For Parents of Autistic tweens and teens, it can be hard to know what to do when their child is having a meltdown or a shutdown.

It can be particularly challenging if during these moments they are hurting themselves, you or a sibling. It may not feel like it, but like all behaviours, this is a just window into the needs of your child.

Due to the complexities of the way our Autistic tweens and teens experience the world meltdowns and shutdowns are not something we can eliminate.  However, when we understand the reasons behind this behaviour we can gain valuable insight and tools that allow us to support our children and ourselves navigate these challenging moments and reducing the incidences of these occurring.

In this 90-minute Masterclass, we will be exploring:

  • What an Autistic meltdown or shutdown is and why it is not just a ‘tantrum’ or ‘bad behaviour’.
  • The reasons your Autistic tween or teen could be experiencing meltdowns or shutdowns.
  • How you can support your Autistic child when they are having a meltdown or a shutdown.
  • Possible supports and changes to your parenting approach that you can implement to reduce the incidences of meltdowns or shutdowns.

Suitable for all parents and educators of children 10-18 years of age.

Move through the session interactively or watch the recording afterwards as provided.

A Completion Certificate is provided to participants of the Masterclass.
