Understanding Executive Dysfunction in Autism and ADHD

Understanding Executive Dysfunction in Autism and ADHD

October 30, 2023 @ 17:30 21:00 UTC+13

Executive dysfunction is a common co-occurring condition that affects many Autistics and ADHDers.

Executive dysfunction can impact your child or teen’s ability to make decisions, plan, start and stay on task as well as stay organised, motivated regulated and adjust their actions according to the situation.  It also makes it difficult for them to remember to do things such as self-care tasks, homework or chores around the house as things that are ‘out of sight’ are often ‘out of mind’ for them.  This can be extremely worrying and frustrating for both the parent and the child/teenager.

When executive dysfunction is misinterpreted or misunderstood by parents and caregivers as ‘laziness” or ‘not trying or caring’ it can have a damaging effect on the young person’s mental health and self-esteem.

In this 90-minute Masterclass, we will be exploring:

  • What Executive Dysfunction is.
  • The types of Executive Dysfunction and the reasons behind Executive Dysfunction.
  • The ways in which Executive Dysfunction can affect your child or teen.
  • Practical ways to support our children and teens with their Executive Dysfunction.

Suitable for all parents and educators of Autistic or ADHD children ages 5 -18 years of age.
